Yahoo Answers recently had this question:
How do I use
PayPal credit card processing for my clients over the phone?
Good question with a possible answer. {However before we explore "how to" a question that needs to be asked is "should you"|"Should you" proceed in this manner becomes an important question to answer before "how to"|Before we look at the "how to" of this question lets understand the answer to "should you"?
There are many reasons that I personally would not recommend doing this as part of your standard operating procedures:
-- Customers can claim that they never made the purchase.
-- Fingers would be pointed at you if unexpected card problems arise.
-- Clients need to be left in control of driving their financial decisions forward.
That being said, who hasn’t gone to a restaurant and watched their credit card disappear for payment processing?
The answer to that question demonstrates that sometimes it becomes necessary to process credit cards over the phone in-order to meet your client’s needs. Thus alternatives for accepting credit cards is certainly something a company should consider. Custom fitting your products to your clients needs within colors, sizes, amounts and a variety of other choices is quite possible using the power of PayPal.
After setting up the above options for you to use the actual payment processing part of the system is relatively painless.
Your client provides you with their information to enter into the PayPal system. Let me say again, to me this is a last resort option with preferences of visiting a local library taking precedence in my opinion.
One safe guard you have is to correctly enter your clients eMail address into the PayPal system. This will provide your client with an eMail that they receive which identifies the transaction that has been made.
Another way to stop trouble before it happens is to include a 7 day hold before order fulfillment. {This gives time everyone needs to make sure that all is proceeding as it should|This should provide enough time for everyone to respond to any concerns that may arise|In this way, if concerns arise you can know about it before services are rendered or products are released.
Again, I would not recommend PayPal credit card processing over the phone as the rule but rather for rare exceptions where no other logical alternative is available for
payment online.
